Josie and Tim Madden collect their certificate from RFU President Richard Appleby

WEST LEEDS RFC were in the spotlight at Twickenham on Saturday during the England v Samoa Investec International when they were formally presented with their Whole Club Seal of Approval certificate by Rugby Football Union President Richard Appleby.

The RFU Seal of Approval accreditation is a major landmark in the development of every club and confirms a club’s elevated status as being among the best-run organisations in the country, with only 49 clubs in the country having so far achieved that status.

The Whole Club SoA process assesses every aspect of a club’s infrastructure and was introduced last year to take the Junior & Youth accreditation to a more advanced level. It is an even more challenging benchmark, but across the game clubs are signing up to both disciplines and putting in place procedures and programmes that deliver the highest levels of safety and support to anyone joining a rugby union club.

The Whole Club Award is an extension of the RFU's Seal of Approval scheme which was introduced in 2002 to improve the provision of rugby within the mini and junior sections of its clubs nationwide. The new award extends the scheme to cover both senior and junior rugby along with all aspects of club life, including maintenance of grounds and facilities.

West Leeds had Junior Chair and Coaching Coordinator Josie and Tim Madden received the framed certificate at pitchside from Richard Appleby.

On Saturday (November 27, 2010) at the England v South Africa Investec International, another Yorkshire club, Acklam RFC from Teesside, will collect their Seal of Approval certificate.
